While everyone’s watching the new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I thought it might be interesting to look back at where it all started.
“It’s a job for professions. It’s a job for… the Ghostbusters!”
Fun fact: When Ghostbusters first released, Ivan Reitman ran another trailer in the form of the Ghostbusters advertisement seen in the movie. You know the one, “Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night?”
Only, they changed the fake phone number in the movie to a real 800 number, so people could actually call in and report their own encounters with spooks, specters, and ghosts. Well, sort of — the number led to a recorded message from Stantz and Venkman, saying they were out and busy ghostbusting.
They apparently received 1,000 calls an hour for the following six weeks.
