Deadline revealed this week that Netflix has tapped Chris Columbus to produce a family-friendly film based on that lovable goat-sucker of Mexican folklore, the Chupacabra.
“The film follows a teenager, who while visiting his family in Mexico, gains an unlikely companion when he discovers a young chupacabra hiding in his grandpa’s shed. In order to save the mythical creature, Alex and his cousins must embark on the adventure of a lifetime.”
Columbus is of course well known for his work on Home Alone, Gremlins, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, perhaps giving us a clue about the film’s tone.
Jonas Cuarón, son of Alfonso Cuarón, is also set to direct.
Here’s hoping we eventually get a family-friendly version of everyone’s favorite bundle of flying entrails, Penanggalan.
Just dripping in family friendly goodness, just like the Chupacabra.
Oh wait, that’s blood.
