Famitsu has revealed that the Switch port for Earth Defense Force 2017 (also known as Earth Defense Force 3) will launch in Japan on October 14, 2021. With that news comes a new debut trailer, which you can check out above.
For a quick refresher:
“2013 AD: A radio transmission is intercepted from an unknown extraterrestrial source
2014 AD: Attempts are made to establish contact with the source but to no avail.
2015 AD: A technologically advanced international army, the EDF, is established.
2017 AD: A large fleet of alien spaceships, dubbed the Ravagers, arrives on Earth and begins indiscriminately attacking humans…
‘Earth Defense Force’ is a shooting action game and follow-up to ‘THE Earth Defense Force’ and ‘THE Earth Defense Force 2’, released in Japan. In this game, the player becomes a soldier of an international army, the EDF, trying to defeat an alien army that suddenly arrives on Earth.”
Both 2017 and the other upcoming Switch port of Earth Defense Force 2 are based on the PS Vita releases of the games. Earth Defense Force 2 does not yet have a release date.
Meanwhile, D3 Publisher and Sandlot have also announced yet another Switch port: Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair. That one will release some time in 2022.
Very soon, the Switch won’t be hurting for Earth Defense Force games.
