Everyone’s favorite specter exterminators are heading back to theaters sooner than we thought: Deadline reports that Ghostbusters 3 is scheduled to release on July 10, 2020.
Just in the past couple weeks, we’ve gone from thinking the Ghostbusters franchise was busted beyond repair, to getting a mysterious teaser trailer and now a full-on release date for a third entry in the original timeline. What twists and turns will happen next? Will the original Ghostbusters return? Will they give us a sufficient amount of nostalgia and assorted merchandise? Time will tell.
Speaking of time, July 10, 2020 is extraordinarily close to the phone number on the side of the Ecto-1 in Ghostbusters 2: “Call JL5-2020.” Coincidence?
Unfortunately, we’ll never get the true third Ghostbusters cinematic installment, which as we all know would have released on February 14, 2016. That’s when the soothsayer known only as Elaine was told — by an alien at the Paramus Holiday Inn, no less — that the world would come to an end.
