Interplay Entertainment have announced a brand new Earthworm Jim animated series. They recently shared the news on Twitter:
“Well this is just groovy…
PREPARE TO LAUNCH THE COW because Earthworm Jim has a new tv series COMING SOON!”
Above you can check out the show’s first teaser, featuring an interview with Earthworm Jim himself. But we still don’t know too much.
The show appears to be taking things in a different direction from the original series, as Earthworm Jim finds himself lost in space and far, far away from Earth. The show will also introduce new characters, who appear to also be sapient earthworms.
The original Earthworm Jim, created by Doug TenNapel, began as a 2D platforming game that released in 1994 on both Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. A sequel quickly followed in 1995.
The old cartoon, meanwhile, premiered on Kids’ WB in 1995, and ran for a total of 23 episodes across two seasons. The show followed Jim as he fought off evil-doers vying for his super suit (though things usually got…weird).
The show featured a number of familiar voice actors — Dan Castellaneta (Aladdin TV series, The Simpsons) voiced Earthworm Jim, while Jim Cummings (Rescue Rangers, Sonic the Hedgehog) played Psy-Crow, among others.
No word yet on when the new series will premiere or where, but I’ll keep you posted.
