Monster Rancher is being ported to iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch.
According to the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, Koei Tecmo has announced the Playstation One classic will release later this year in Japan. The game will include new features, as well as the ability to download and battle against monsters raised by other players, as shared by Gematsu.
Perhaps the most notable feature of the original game was the ability to generate monsters by plopping CDs into your Playstation. Since the port will be digital only, and on platforms that (last I checked) lack CD drives, the developers have had to compromise:
“… CD playback is not supported on smartphones or Switch, so in order to replicate this feature, you can generate monsters by searching for CD names and artists from a custom database via the network.”
Not quite as cool, but it’ll do. No word yet on if/when the game will make it out of Japan, but here’s hoping.
