A trailer for the new Jumanji reboot dropped today, with a “Welcome to the Jungle” tacked on. Plot synopsis incoming:
“…four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…”
I see it taking a bit of heat in the comments, but I’m not so sure. I’ve always liked the original Jumanji, but it’s not something I’d ever put up on a pedestal. The idea of the game itself changing to fit the time is pretty interesting, and the film looks like it’ll be its own thing. Probably didn’t need to be called Jumanji, but hey – that’s just the way things go.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will release December 20, 2017, and stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.
