Maniac Mansion is the best video game ever made.
Big claim? Sure. But in my universe, no other game has stuck with me for as long. It is the progenitor. The beginning of all things. It’s the game I had in mind when I named this blog – I wanted something that evoked scifi and horror and B movies, but I also wanted it to sound like it could fit right in with the world of Maniac Mansion.
Don’t be a tunahead, you remember? The Meteor Police. Razor and the Scummetts. Three Guys Who Publish Anything. And don’t forget to attend the Anti-Nuclear rally this Saturday at the football field.
That’s why I’m excited to jump into Thimbleweed Park as soon as I get the chance. Developed by both original designers of 1987’s Maniac Mansion, Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, it arrives thanks to a successful Kickstarter, and looks to be something of a modernized spiritual successor to that old SCUMM game.
The launch trailer is above, but Thimbleweed Park is already available for a cool $19.99 on Steam, Xbox One, Gog, and the Apple Appstore.
