Variety is now reporting that Universal has tapped Ryan Gosling to play the Wolfman, as they move forward with another attempt to jumpstart a series of new takes on the old Universal Monsters.
This news follows the recent success of the $7-million budget The Invisible Man, which ultimately made a cool $122 million at the box office. Now, the search is on for a director to take on everyone’s favorite lycanthrope.
According to Variety, the script for the new Wolfman is already completed, based on a pitch by Gosling, and written by Orange is the New Black writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo.
“…it is believed to be set in present times and in the vein of Jake Gyllenhaal’s thriller “Nightcrawler,” with an obvious supernatural twist.”
