In 1989, the world went silent when talk show host Arsenio Hall bravely called out the sociopathic supernatural zombie Jason Voorhees on air. “You know what I noticed?” Hall said to Mr. Voorhees, “You’re angry.”
Voorhees had appeared on the show simply to promote his latest film, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. Coincidentally, this was the same year the Arsenio Hall Show debuted.
However, what Voorhees found on the set of that late night talk show was not a promotional opportunity, but rather an attempt by Hall to deconstruct and understand his murderous ways. “What happened, man?” Hall asked, pointedly, “Where did it all begin?” Voorhees, for his part, sat silent, either unable or unwilling to confront the origins of his rage.
For the duration of the nearly six minute interview, Voorhees said nothing. Perhaps, to many, this was a disappointing turn of events. There was no catharsis. There were no answers.
To this day, this remains the only aired interview with Jason Voorhees.
