Classic Trailer: Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

Not since the beginning of time…

1954’s Creature from the Black Lagoon was directed by Jack Arnold (who also directed 1953’s It Came from Outer Space and 1957’s haunting The Incredible Shrinking Man), and stars Antonio Morena, Richard Carlson, Richard Denning, Whit Bissell and, of course, Julia Adams.

Together, they play a group of scientists who venture into the secluded Black Lagoon, only to cross paths with a creature who probably just wants to be left alone.

This is one of my favorite old monster movies, the Gill-man himself being my #1 draft pick of the Universal Monsters. He just wants his Lagoon back! But in general, there’s just something about lagoons and other aquatic escapades that hits me the right way (think The Creature That Challenged the World and Attack of the Giant Leeches. Great films? No. But they’re comfy).

Watch the above trailer and be amazed at the classic underwater title card and suspenseful narration. “In this most terrifying of the science fiction adventures!”
