Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is currently hard at work on a stateside live-action Gundam movie. Legendary recently gave us a sneak peak at their giant robot concept art on Twitter.

The film will be a Netflix exclusive, and according to Legendary, “It’s Gundam like you’ve never seen before.” Other than that, details are scarce. Deadline revealed the project back in April, and this is the first trickle of info we’ve had since then.
The original Mobile Suit Gundam anime began way back in 1979. While it wasn’t initially a runaway success, it has since become one of Japan’s most popular franchises. So popular, in fact, that last year a full-size replica of the iconic Gundam robot was tested in Yokohama, Japan. The robot measures about 60 feet tall and can actually move.
Mobile Suit Gundam’s story takes place in the Universe Century 0079, during which humanity has ventured out to form various space colonies. Eventually, one colony decides to seek independence from Earth, launching an all-out robot war for their freedom.
No word yet on when we can expect Netflix’s Gundam, but I’ll keep you posted.
