As Deadline reports, Godzilla vs. Kong has earned a total of $16.3 million in the U.S. after two days, netting a whole $9.6 million on day one (March 31) alone. This has easily beaten initial expectations, according to Warner Bros., and apparently shown that movie goers will not be swayed from catching their favorite kaijus up on the big screen.
Godzilla vs. Kong is also garnering praise over at Rotten Tomatoes. Certified “fresh,” the film has a 76% positive rating among professional reviewers, while the audience score is currently sitting at 94%. Compare this to 2019’s King of the Monsters, which wound up rotten with critics (42%), but still had a solid 83% audience score.
Does this bode well for the future of the MonsterVerse? I’ll guess we’ll see. Personally, I’m looking forward to Kong: War for the Hollow Earth and Invasion of Space Godzilla.
