We have to shrink corn. It’ll change the world.
I know you’ve been feeling extremely restless ever since the Honey I Shrunk The Kids legacy sequel got stuck in what the industry calls “development hell.” But don’t worry, maybe The Miniature Wife will fill that shrinking void in your heart.
Coming April 9 to Peacock TV, The Miniature Wife is a 10-episode scifi dramedy series starring Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen. Banks plays Lindy, who gets shrunk down to only 6 inches tall and ends up living in a doll house. Shenanigans ensue. The show’s official synopsis says it examines “the power (im)balances between spouses after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis.” But there’s a little quark quirk to the story, if they follow through.
The Miniature Wife is actually based on a short story of the same name, written by Manuel Gonzales. And it’s not what you think it is. I’m not going to spoil it here just in case the show goes there, but I’ll write on it after. There are little bits and pieces of this trailer that hint at the meat of the short story, and I really hope they go in that direction and not just the comedy/dramedy vibe the trailer sets up. The husband’s eyepatch, the wife breaking out of the dollhouse. Hunting flies. A Home Alone-esque marble trap? Possibly. Possibly.
We’ll know for sure next month!
