How has this not happened already?
Boom! Studios is about to unleash a brand new comic book crossover series in the form of Godzilla Vs The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, pitting the King of the Monsters against a handful of teenagers with attitude. The series will premiere in March 2022 and run for five monthly issues.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“When Rita Repulsa uses an ancient artifact to transport herself to a universe without Power Rangers, she finds herself in a world with aliens, kaiju, and… Godzilla! Hoping to annihilate this new foe, Rita hurls her own terrible creatures into battle. But she never expects that the Rangers have followed her to this alternate reality, pitting the Dinozords themselves head-to-head with the King of the Monsters!”
Cullen Bunn will serve as writer, while Freddie Williams II will provide illustrations.
“I’ve been a massive Godzilla fan since before I could read,” says Bunn in the press release, “and my love for the King of Monsters has never faded in all those years. Likewise, I’ve always loved Tokusatsu superheroics, and vividly remember watching the first episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when it came out. This is a crossover that I suspect will take readers by surprise—but it makes complete sense!”
Williams, meanwhile, has been submerging his brain in both MMPR and Godzilla lore to set the mood: “This will be the biggest, most stratospheric crossover I’ve ever drawn,” he says, “It’s the combination of so many big genres: Giant Monsters vs. Mechs, martial arts vs. science and magic, with lots of collateral destruction! I’ve been watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episodes and Godzilla films to submerge my brain space, and have been reminded how fantastic and charming these designs are and how much fun prior creators had with their designs.”
The series is a collaboration between IDW and Boom!, as well as Toho and Hasbro, who of course own the rights to Godzilla and Power Rangers, respectively.

The Power Rangers franchise is no stranger to oftentimes unusual crossover events. The Power Rangers In Space episode “Shell Shocked” featured a crossover with TMNT: The Next Mutation. In 2019, also courtesy Boom! Studios, the original Power Rangers met the TMNT in another five issue series. In 2017, they also teamed up with the Justice League.
Godzilla, too, has seen his fair share of crossovers. He first fought King Kong way back in 1962 (and that was originally going to feature Frankenstein’s Monster!). He’s also appeared in a Snickers commercial, and in 1998 starred in an unusual, and some would say infamous, crossover with Matthew Broderick and the cast of The Simpsons.
