April will soon draw to a close, but that steady rumbling means Godzilla is only getting closer. So let’s hurry up! Here’s a scattering of kaiju news to get your week started.
Takashi Yamazaki’s Message to Godzilla Fans
Takashi Yamazaki, writer and director of Godzilla Minus One and the upcoming Godzilla Minus Zero, recorded a message after that first Zero trailer dropped last week. What’s he have to say about working on the sequel? “Honestly, it’s difficult, but a lot of fun at the same time. I promise it’s going to be a great movie. I can’t wait for you to see it.” Godzilla Minus Zero arrives on November 6, 2026.
Ultraman Teo and Anime
Tsuburaya Productions have announced Ultraman Teo, a new series just in time for the franchise’s 60th anniversary. It’s set to begin airing in Japan on July 4, 2026, and if you head over to the official website, you can catch some new info on the blue Giant of Light himself. 45 meters tall, and he weighs 36,000 tonnes. Watch out!
Meanwhile, Otome Kaiju Caramelize is an upcoming anime about a girl who has a kaiju problem. It’s like Colossal but she actually physically turns into a giant monster. That can cause issues!
Hit the books
- Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game has raised $265,142 on Kickstarter, overshooting its original $60,000 goal. The game is an official card-based tabletop experience and includes a rulebook and everything. Wargamer did an interview with the game’s co-designer Gav Thorpe, who describes some of the game’s systems and what it’s all about.
- Las Angeles Review of Books takes a look at The Luminous Fairies and Mothra, a new translation of the original story.
Excidio The Kaiju Simulator
Excidio The Kaiju Simulator released February 21, 2026 on Steam to Very Positive reviews. It’s a fully destructible physics-based kaiju battler that at least one of the reviews I read compares to PS4’s mysterious and elusive Godzilla (2015). The game features both sandbox and arcade modes, as well as a photo mode for when you just want to take some photos of your kaiju, as we do.
Kaiju Crossovers
Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla? The Blue Blur is about to meet the Giant Radioactive Lizard in a new IDW miniseries comic where their worlds collide. Of course, Sonic and friends are no strangers to dealing with giant weird lizard-like prototype creatures. I have a feeling Godzilla will be more mobile though.
Earlier this year, the Godzilla franchise also appeared in Sonic Rumble, with unlocks and certain levels featuring kaiju like King Ghidora and Mothra.
And finally, two human-sized kaiju resembling Godzilla and Kong are leaping into Call of Duty: Mobile on April 24, 2026. Is that Godzilla with a gun? Hey, just watch the trailer, I wouldn’t lie to you:
Does the oversaturation of crossovers risk diluting the value of IPs to the point where nothing really matters anymore and we start to feel a cold, hollow emptiness every time we see a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fight Homer Simpson while wearing a Mothra backpack? No, no that can’t be. Well, that’s all for this week, anyway!
