Well, I can’t say I saw this coming!
The two Kings Of Kaiju met on a slightly different battlefield this month in a very special Epic Rap Battles Of History. Who won? Well, I don’t know, but watch it and marvel as Godzilla and Kong rip each other apart with words. Who knew they had such extensive vocabularies! The rap features Nice Peter as Godzilla and EpicLLOYD as Kong.
A few references that jumped out at me:
Godzilla: “Goofy berry juice.”
This is a reference to Farolacton, an ingredient in berries native to the fictional Faro Island. The islanders would offer juice made with the berries to Kong in 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla. Let’s just say Kong had a bit too much at one point and later ended up in Japan.
Godzilla: “Like Nintendo did.”
I’m assuming Godzilla is attacking Donkey Kong here. Ouch.
Kong: “Lizzie.”
The giant lizard character of the old Midway arcade game Rampage is named Lizzie!
Kong: “Reppin’ RKO.”
RKO, or RKO Radio Pictures, distributed 1933’s King Kong.
Kong: “I dunked on you like Barkley.”
Did you know Godzilla once fought a giant Charles Barkley? It happened in a comic book! And a commercial.
Kong: “Cause like Bryan Cranston you been dead since the first act.”
Look, I don’t hate Godzilla 2014, but the trailers were a bit of a bait and switch.
Godzilla: “This is kids’ stuff, send in Minilla.”
Minilla is the adopted son of Godzilla. Check out his recent adventures in Godziban!
Godzilla: “The Beast from 20,000 fathoms.”
1954’s Gojira was inspired by the 1953 film The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, based on the short story “The Fog Horn” by Ray Bradbury.
Kong: “I’ll shove a tree down your neck.”
Kong did just that in their first meeting back in 1962! See?
Tasty and nutritious!
ERB have been around since 2010, pitting famous figures from throughout history against each other, including such greats as Thomas Edison vs. Nikola Tesla, Cleopatra vs. Marilyn Monroe, and Genghis Khan vs. The Easter Bunny. Yes, that happened.
