‘Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters’ To Premiere On Apple TV+ Later This Year

Godzilla Rampages In San Francisco

Godzilla fans should be having a pretty good time right about now, with Godzilla Minus One just around the corner, speculation heating up about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and now the announcement of a whole new MonsterVerse series set to premiere very soon on Apple TV+: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. I know I’m excited!

The series will reportedly span three generations, as the mystery of Monarch’s secretive operations and the existence of Earth’s Titans are unraveled. With a special guest appearance by Godzilla himself!

From the official synopsis:

“Spanning three generations, the series follows the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw, taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.”

The series, co-developed by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, will be 10 episodes long, and star Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tipett, and Elisa Loasowski.

Kurt and Wyatt Russell will actually play the same character, Lee Shaw, though at different points of his life. Images shared by Apple show off a little of what we can expect, particularly of Godzilla’s role in the whole thing. As the synopsis says, the series kicks off with the battle of San Francisco in Godzilla 2014, and you can see the school bus making another appearance in Legacy of Monsters:

“In the wake of G-Day, who are the real monsters?” Apple TV’s X account asked earlier this month.

Anyway, we don’t have a release date, yet, but there’s a good chance that Legacy of Monsters might appear sometime in November, as we’ll be celebrating the 69th anniversary of Gojira‘s original release in Japan on November 3, 2023. There’s also reason to believe it may become the first 3D Apple Vision Pro show, meaning viewers will be able to watch it through the Vision Pro headset.

That should be a trip!
